Estimates from averages, for fun — the date arithmetic above is exact; these are not.

Your age is the time from your date of birth to today, counted on the calendar: first the whole years, then the whole months left over, then the remaining days. Enter your date of birth above and the calculator shows your exact age — for example, someone born on June 15, 1990 is 36 years, 4 months and 15 days old on October 30, 2026.

It also gives your age in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds, a countdown to your next birthday, the weekday you were born on, your star sign, Chinese zodiac animal, birthstone and generation, and the milestones you have passed and are heading for.

Worked example

Date of birth: June 15, 1990Age on: October 30, 2026

Your age today: 36 years, 4 months, 15 days

That is 13,286 days, 436 months and 15 days, or 1,898 weeks. The next birthday — the 37th — is on Tuesday, June 15, 2027.

How to use the Age Calculator

  1. Enter your date of birth. Pick it in the calendar, or type the month, day and year.
  2. Leave "Age on" set to today, or choose another date to see how old you were — or will be — on that day.
  3. Read your exact age in years, months and days, with the totals, your next birthday and your milestones below it.
  4. Share the result as a link or a picture card, or copy it as text.

How your exact age is worked out

The calculator counts forward from your birth date the way you would on a paper calendar:

  1. Whole years. Count the birthdays you have had. Born June 15, 1990 and it is October 30, 2026: your 36th birthday was June 15, 2026, so that is 36 years.
  2. Whole months. From June 15, 2026, count the 15ths of the month: July, August, September and October 15 — 4 months.
  3. Days. From October 15 to October 30 is 15 days.

So the age is 36 years, 4 months and 15 days. The totals — 13,286 days, 1,898 weeks — are a straight count of the days between the two dates, with every leap day included.

Why other calculators sometimes disagree by a day

Some tools divide a number of days by 365.25 for years or by 30.44 for months. That is an average, not a calendar, and it drifts: it can put you a day or two out on most dates and more around February. This calculator never divides — it walks the calendar — so it agrees with the way birthdays, school year cut-offs and most official forms count age.

The one place where honest methods differ is the end of a month. February has no 31st, so from January 31 to February 28 the answer here is 28 days, and the month is complete on March 1 — the same rule that gives a 29 February birthday to 1 March in other years. From February 28 to March 31 it is 1 month and 3 days. The rule is explained in full on how age is calculated.

Birthdays on February 29

If you were born on a leap day, your birthday only appears on the calendar once every four years. In the years between, this calculator completes each new year of age on March 1 — so someone born on February 29, 2000 is 24 years, 11 months and 30 days old on February 28, 2025, and turns 25 the next day. Some laws use February 28 instead; if a legal age matters, check the rule where you live.

Your age in other units

The months figure counts whole calendar months plus the leftover days. Weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds are exact multiples of the day count, measured from midnight on the day you were born to midnight on the "age on" date. If you know your birth time, the age in seconds calculator counts from that minute and ticks live.

Signs, stones and generations

Your star sign uses the usual tropical zodiac dates; signs change on a slightly different day in some years, so a birthday on a cusp can be read either way. Your Chinese zodiac animal is taken from the lunar year you were born in, which starts at Lunar New Year — between January 21 and February 20 — rather than on January 1, so a January or early-February birthday often belongs to the previous year's animal. The Chinese zodiac calculator has the details. Generations follow Pew Research Center's ranges where Pew has set them; see the generation calculator.

Age is not counted the same way everywhere

Counting from zero at birth and adding a year on each birthday is the international standard, and what this page shows. Traditional East Asian reckoning starts at one and adds a year at the new year; South Korea moved its laws to international age on June 28, 2023. The Korean age calculator shows all three Korean systems side by side.

The law has its own quirk too. Under the old common-law rule — which the U.S. Social Security Administration still follows — you reach a new age on the day before your birthday. That is why the retirement age calculator treats a January 1 birthday as belonging to the previous year.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my exact age?

Count the whole years from your birth date to today (the number of birthdays you have had), then the whole months since your last birthday, then the days since that month-day. Born June 15, 1990, on October 30, 2026 you are 36 years, 4 months and 15 days old. The calculator does this for you and handles leap years and month ends.

How do I work out how old I am from my birth year?

Subtract your birth year from the current year. If your birthday has not come yet this year, subtract one more. For example, in 2026 someone born in 1990 is 36 after their birthday and 35 before it. The birth year calculator works it the other way round.

Does the age calculator count leap years?

Yes. The days, weeks, hours, minutes and seconds totals include every February 29 between the two dates, and the result lists how many leap days you have lived through.

How old am I if I was born on February 29?

You are counted a year older on March 1 in common years and on February 29 in leap years. Someone born on February 29, 2000 turned 25 on March 1, 2025.

Why is my age in days not my age in years times 365?

Because some of those years had 366 days. Every leap year you have lived through adds a day, and the days since your last birthday are added on top of the whole years.

Can I calculate my age on a past or future date?

Yes. Change the "Age on" date. Set it to a date in the future to see how old you will be then, or to a date in the past to see how old you were.

Is my date of birth saved or sent anywhere?

No. The date is used to calculate your result and is not stored, and the site sets no tracking cookies. It only goes into a link if you choose to share your result.
