Why your birthday moves through the week
A common year is 52 weeks and 1 day, so a birthday falls one weekday later each year: Tuesday this year, Wednesday next year. After a February 29 it jumps two — which is why some years seem to skip a weekday. Over a 28-year cycle (outside century years) every weekday comes round four times.
How the countdown is counted
The days are counted from the start of today to the start of your birthday, so "1 day" means tomorrow. The months-and-days figure counts whole calendar months first: from October 30 to June 15 is 7 months and 16 days. Hours are the days × 24, from midnight.
Half birthdays
Your half birthday is six months after your birthday — popular for children with birthdays near the holidays or in the school vacation. When the month six months later is too short (an August 31 birthday), the half birthday falls on the last day of that month, February 28 or 29.
February 29 birthdays
If you were born on a leap day, your actual birthday only appears every four years. The calculator counts down to March 1 in common years — the day on which your new year of age is complete — and to February 29 in leap years. Many leap-day babies celebrate on February 28 instead; both are common. The next leap years are 2028 and 2032.
